BIBO PARK • SAN RAFAEL

Set directly off the Ibiza to San Antonio road near Sant Rafel, Bibo Park feels unexpectedly green and expansive once inside. From the outside, you would never quite expect what is hidden behind the entrance. A botanical and biotechnology park filled with ponds, shaded walkways, interactive installations, climbing structures and sensory spaces designed entirely around curiosity.

Children tend to disappear into it almost immediately. Following dragonflies through the gardens, stopping beside frog ponds, climbing wooden towers or moving between domes filled with plants, sound and light. Throughout the park, colourful butterflies and dragonflies appear constantly, woven into sculptures and installations that children become completely fascinated by.

What makes the space feel so successful is that it never tips into overstimulation. Even with the science and technology woven through it, the atmosphere remains calm, open and grounded in nature. Gravel pathways wind through native planting, ponds and shaded corners beneath pine trees, while the different experiences unfold slowly across the park rather than competing for attention all at once.

BOTANY, BIOTECHNOLOGY AND PLAY

Bibo Park blends botany, zoology and biotechnology in a way that feels genuinely interactive for children. Native flora from Ibiza and Formentera sits alongside sensory gardens, atmospheric water systems, habitats, biopanels and installations exploring sustainability and environmental innovation. One of the most memorable spaces is the Vegetable Piano, a half-dome installation filled with succulents where plants respond to human interaction through light and sound. It feels somewhere between science experiment and art installation, and children become completely absorbed by it. The experience reflects the wider spirit of the park, where technology is used not to replace nature, but to deepen children’s connection to it.

There are also atmospheric water stations throughout the park where drinking water is collected directly from humidity in the air. Children become strangely obsessed with it, returning repeatedly to fill up cups and bottles from something that feels almost impossible in Ibiza’s dry summer heat. Alongside the educational spaces are climbing structures, ponds filled with frogs, open gardens and interactive pathways that allow the experience to remain playful and physical throughout.

A PLACE THAT INVITES CHILDREN TO SLOW DOWN

What feels most noticeable at Bibo Park is the way children settle into it. The experience does not rush them. There are no loud rides or overwhelming distractions pulling attention in every direction. Instead, the park encourages children to notice things. Water moving. Insects gathering. Plants changing shape beneath light and shadow. It works particularly well across different ages because every child experiences it differently. Younger children become absorbed in climbing, textures and ponds, while older children begin asking questions about sustainability, water systems, biotechnology and the environment around them. Even in the middle of summer, the atmosphere tends to remain surprisingly relaxed.

THE CAFE

The café is worth mentioning in its own right and easily turns a short visit into a slower family day. Parents sit beneath the shade with coffees and fresh juices while children continue moving between the gardens and play areas nearby. The menu feels far more thoughtful than a standard park café, with pastries, salads, brunch dishes, empanadas and good coffee, making it somewhere families genuinely linger rather than simply stop briefly for food.

SUMMER CAMP

During July and August, Bibo Park also runs a summer camp centred around nature, creativity, science and outdoor play. For families based on the island, it has become one of those useful summer options that feels both educational and genuinely enjoyable for children.

WHAT LINGERS

What lingers after Bibo Park is the feeling of watching children become completely absorbed in curiosity. Not through screens or overstimulation, but through water, plants, sound, insects and movement. The multicoloured dragonflies hanging above pathways. Tiny frogs hidden beside ponds. Small hands reaching carefully towards succulents inside the Vegetable Piano. Children returning again and again to drink water pulled directly from the atmosphere as though it were magic.

It feels imaginative without losing its grounding in the natural world. A place where science and nature sit side by side, and where children are quietly reminded to look more closely at the world around them.
