ES FIGUERAL • NORTH EAST

Es Figueral is a long, wide beach on the north-east coast, with clear shallow water and a landscape that still feels remarkably untouched. There is a little holiday town behind it, but from the sand much of what you see is sea, rocks and the green hills surrounding the bay. There is plenty of room for kids to play and enough around the beach to make staying for the whole day very easy.

The water stays shallow for a long stretch and is beautifully clear, making Es Figueral one of the family-friendly places in Ibiza that works just as well with little kids as it does with older ones. There are council sunbeds and parasols across the beach, a restaurant and small shop nearby, and plenty of parking. If the main car park is full, there is usually more along the surrounding streets.

SWIMMING, SNORKELLING & JUMPING FROM THE ROCKS

Most of the day tends to revolve around the water. Little kids can paddle and play in the shallows close to shore, while the rocks around the sides of the beach are brilliant for snorkelling. The water is clear enough to see plenty beneath the surface and there is lots of sea life around the rocks, so goggles and snorkels are worth throwing into the beach bag.

There is also a large natural rock pier stretching out into the sea that inevitably becomes part of the day. Kids climb onto it, jump into the water, swim back and do it all over again. Paddle boards can be rented from the beach and kayak excursions head out from here too, giving older kids another way to explore the coastline.

AN EASY DAY ON THE BEACH

There is enough around Es Figueral that you don’t need to arrive carrying everything for the day. A restaurant sits close to the sand for lunch, drinks and ice creams, while the little shop nearby is useful for snacks, cold drinks and all the beach things that somehow get forgotten, lost or broken. Spare goggles and floaties can be found here too.

Council sunbeds and parasols are available along the beach and are reasonably priced, so it’s easy to find some shade and settle in. Despite all of this, Es Figueral doesn’t feel particularly developed once you’re on the beach. The cala is wide, the surrounding landscape remains green and natural, and there is enough space for everyone to spread out without losing that lovely feeling of being beside the sea for the day.

WHAT LINGERS

Buckets abandoned in the wet sand when the sea becomes more interesting. Kids swimming around the rocks in their goggles, looking beneath the surface to see what they can find, before heading back across the beach to jump from the rock pier again.

A beach day that can carry on for hours without anyone asking what they’re doing next.
