Grew Up in Ibiza
In Santa Eulalia, life carries a different rhythm. It’s familiar, cared for, rooted in daily life. Ana has grown up within that rhythm, and now builds her own work around it, shaped by children, family and a way of living that has always stayed close to the everyday.
“I’ve been lucky to grow up on this wonderful island.”
Ana was born on the island, into a life her parents had already begun here when they were young. Ibiza isn’t some place she arrived to, but the island she has always lived within. When she looks back, it’s not just a series of moments but a feeling that stays with her. “My childhood was wonderful… in one word, happy.” Her parents had a restaurant, and much of her childhood unfolded by the sea. “My childhood smells of the sea. I was raised on the beach.” Even now, she is never far from the sea for too long. “The atmosphere is different.”
“Ibiza has something the rest of Spain doesn’t have.” She doesn’t try to explain it beyond that. “It’s something you can’t understand unless you live here and feel it.” What she holds onto is simple. “The version of Ibiza I love is the real one, the one that isn’t about parties.” Ana speaks about winter, when everything slows and the island becomes quieter, more recognisable. “When everyone leaves, you realise there is much more beyond just a party.”
She speaks of the island with honesty, “The island has changed too much.” Areas that were once open spaces are now built on, prices have risen, and now there is more comparison, creating distance between people. “There is too much classism.” But Ana knows that if you surround yourself with real people, much of that fades.
“If you know how to surround yourself with real people, you hardly notice it.”
She’s clear about how the island is seen from the outside, too. “Many who visit the island sadly misunderstand almost everything.” Too often, Ibiza is treated as a place to pass through, rather than somewhere to explore and cherish. Ana says, “Come in winter… that’s when you see the real Ibiza” – she knows that much of the beauty of the island is overlooked, or simply missed by those arriving simply to party. In her own life, Ana knows the possibilities the island offers have shaped the way she moves. “Ibiza allows you to be ambitious, to try, and to make mistakes.” There is space to begin something, and if it does not work, to begin again.
Back in 2024, Ana founded Mevak Ibiza Kids, a year-round space for children aged three to six, offering holiday camps throughout the year and providing infants with a fun place to play, create, and learn during school breaks. Before this, she worked at Can Muson Farm School. Working with children wasn’t something Ana fell into; it has been her life’s passion. “I’ve always loved children… I always knew this was my path.” She sees the difference in the children growing up here.
“They’re not like other children… they’re different, they’re special.”
Now, Ana’s focus turns naturally to what comes next. With a baby on the way, she is delighted about where her little one’s life will begin. “I’m so happy to know I’ll be raising my baby in Ibiza.” She explains that she hopes her baby will carry that intangible sense of freedom the island provides, something hard to define, but those who know it feel it too. “Ibiza offers so many beautiful things that aren’t material.” A sense of calm. Freedom. The space to be themselves.
“Without a doubt, we chose Ibiza to raise our baby because it has something special.”
When she thinks about the island and how we can protect it, her answer is immediate. “Everything.” The language, the traditions, the landscapes. “If we destroy it, nothing will remain.” She knows nothing will stay untouched forever. “Nothing will remain unchanged.” But she still hopes that something essential holds.
“I want my children to inherit the smell, the peace, the calm.”
For Ana, Ibiza doesn’t need explaining. It’s a life she has lived. And beneath everything else, it’s simply home.
